Tioman Oct 2012 ☼

☁ Day 1

After much research, we have decided on the destination of our very first trip together - Tioman. Tioman is one of the islands in Malaysia with the most beautiful beaches. We booked a 3D2N package at $258/pax from HolidayBagus and Berjaya Tioman Resort was our choice of stay.

We reached Newton Circus as early as 6.00 am to catch the 6.30 am coach to Mersing Ferry terminal. We expected a 26-seater coach, but it turned out to be a 9-seater mini van instead.

At around 9 am, we reached Mersing.

Registering for our ferry and hotel voucher.

As the ferry only departs at 11am, we spent some time roaming the area.

Typical Souvenir Shop.

3 for RM10. I  cheap thrills! ヽ(•‿•)ノ

OKOK teh tarik with cold maggi goreng. :/

Seasick pills. A necessity for me.

Ferry Route from Mersing to 6 other jetties on Tioman Island

After 2 hours of ferry ride, we finally arrived!

And finally, we arrived at the Berjaya Tioman Resort!

After settling in, it was almost 4pm and we were famished. We headed to Sri Nelayan Restaurant where they had all day dining.

my fish n chips

his usual beef steak - the mash potato was awesome!

Thirst quenching ice cold Tiger beer. One of our must haves!

It was low tide when we strolled the beach, which resulted in muddy puddles instead of crystal clear sea water. Here's a pic of us on the beach (Took us several attempts for this self shot wahahaha)

We recced the place and found a chinese 'restaurant' which sold affordable RM4 Tiger Beer. And then...

we went back with 2 bags full!!

there were around 20 cans for the two of us...

The most beautiful part about holidaying is that you have the license and mood to keep eating non stop. It just works that way. ;) And yes, it's time to feast again!! Just outside Berjaya Tioman Resort, there are two eateries - one would be serving Halal food and the other Chinese cuisine. The halal eatery - Restoran Delima, was more crowded and being typical Singaporeans, we decided to have dinner there. As it is a halal restaurant, they do not sell alcohol. However, they  allow you to purchase from the Chinese eatery opposite and have it at Restoran Delima. Sweet uh?

open till 1am for night owls like us :)

The food was generally good. We ordered spicy mushroom soup, sotong, prawns, kailan and a fish. Luckily, all came in small portion which was just nice for the two of us. We wiped out every single dish leaving only garnishes behind.

Rating? 7.5/10
Damage? approx RM90, which is less than $40 for all the seafood!

Last on the itinerary for day 1 was of course drinking. We brought our beer to the benches by the beach and made ourselves cozy there. With the gentle sea breeze and peaceful setting, it was definitely one of the most relaxing moment.

☼ Day 2

Day 2 started off with breakfast buffet at Sri Nelayan. Oh, one awful fact about the restaurant was the existence of irritating houseflies hovering all over your food. Other than that, breakfast was fine. As usual, I adore live egg stations. The boy who loves eggs too had at least 4 eggs that morning.

After breakfast, it's time to take a stroll again. Tide was high for Day 2 and the beach was beautiful.

And before we knew it, we ended up with beer on our hands again.
 Holidays!!

We checked out a transport counter just outside the resort as we wanted to explore the area. The owner recommended us a few places which were worth a visit. Frankly speaking, it was easy to navigate as it was just a straight route down to all the nearby attractions.

Snorkeling crowd!

 Duty-Free Shop

 Beer again!

For lunch, we decided to try the Chinese eatery. In case you are wondering why there is a big bag of water, it is actually used to keep houseflies away. The owner said that the houseflies dislike the reflective surfaces. I prefer to think houseflies at Tioman had their shades on.

hokkien mee, vension with ginger and spring onion, red cabbage.
Rating? 6.5/10
Damage? approx. RM40 plus beer

one more shot before we go for snorkeling at Renggis Island

Sad to say, we did not manage any shots during the snorkeling trip as we had no waterproof camera. We were desperate and searched in vain for a zip lock bag to put our digital camera. Anyway, we walked a pretty long distance to the Marine Center to get our snorkeling gear. We took a small boat to Renggis Island, which was less than a minute away. The current was quite strong and being a poor swimmer myself, there was no way i could swim around the island. Hence, we snorkeled around the floating platform. The weather turned gloomy and by the time we were back on the boat, it started drizzling with dark clouds looming over us. We walked past the pool and decided to soak ourselves in the jacuzzi. The drizzle caught up with us at the pool and it got heavier. Dead beat, we hurried back to our chalet before the heavy downpour.

After shower, we were hungry, again. It must have been the snorkeling. It was pouring too heavily outside and we could not go anywhere. So, room service was the finest choice. The poor staff rode a bike to our chalet with our warm mushroom soup and fried hong kong noodles.

Upon wiping out the plates and bowls, we fell deep into slumber. Sleeping after meals has always been my hobby. By the time we woke up, it was almost 11.30 pm. We washed up and headed back to Restoran Delima for dinner/supper.

We ordered flower crabs, tiger prawns, baby kailan, spicy chicken soup and mama fried kway tiao. Dinner on day 2 was not as fabulous as Day 1. I guess because the black pepper flower crab was too watery for my liking and the fried kway tiao tasted weird.

Rating? 6.5/10
Damage? approx RM 110. slightly more expensive because of the flower crabs.

After dinner, it's time for beer by the beach again. We felt sleepy after dinner but after a few cans of beer, we got our energy back. Our beer supply died out and we went to the chinese eatery for more, at 3.45 am. LOL. Because we were 'happy (tipsy) people', we were positive that the eatery was still open. At first, there was nobody around. But as the lights were still on, we 'asked' if there was 'anybody home?'. Moments later, a half naked man came out, unlocked the fridge, and sold us a few more bottles of Hoegaarden and Tiger. Delighted, we continued drinking at the poolside till 6 am before we went back to sleep.
Who said couples can't do 6 am's together? ;)

happy (tipsy) faces

⌛ Day 3

Day 3 was brief, simply because holiday was ending and we were rushing for time. We had the same breakfast and headed straight to the jetty for the 12 pm ferry. Rushed for the mini bus, rushed to avoid jam at the custom, and finally, back at home.

Ending the post, here's one of my favorite pic with silly boy.

P/S: We wanna go back again!
